Short or "Cropped" Pants

I spent all morning hemming my pants. I have now "cropped" most of them. I don't know why, I just decided too. I want to show off my hairy calves, is part of it.

Who can relate this to commerce and the artworld? The capriciousness of the art market? The excitement of the creative act? I am looking to get a really heady discussion going. This was the only way I could think of to introduce it.

I can start off with, I am not angry today!! I have faith in magic once again. This is a personal blog so I feel I can mention these things. There is a dealer I know of who has bushy eyebrows. Perhaps this can be a tangent in the debate. Dealers get a bad rap. Maybe it's only because puny-feeling artists empower them. We project filth into the silence. I don't know. I am just guessing.

Let's start the debate right now!!!!! Good luck getting feisty!!! Hey artists!! Get energized!!!!!!!

Thank you for introducing this topic, MM. I can only speak from personal experience. I know that I don't do enough to promote my own work. I smile a lot, that's about it. But I feel I need to make more friends, in addition to sticking to the forward-moving wonder in my sculptures. I am a good sculptor, but I am having trouble getting anyone to take a chance on me, if I may quote Abba.

I am represented by a gallery in Williamsburg. It is a very nice small gallery but they never sell my work. I don't know whose fault it is, or if I can blame anyone. I definitely see a link between this phenomenon and short pants. Nice!

I am an artist too. I sell lots of work but get no press attention. I don't know what to do either. So probably I will do nothing and just keep making my work, that's the fun part. Staying indoors on a day like today and working by myself. I don't like people much.

I am sorry to hear about your pants. I think longer pants are more in style.

The art world is very much like hemlines. One minute the cropped pant is very in. The next, kaboom! - the bermuda short - - then it's all about Jams!!

MM, I think the cropped look is very now. Very, very now. Are you documenting the alerations? But I know the real secret.. you want to show off your new goat legs and who can blame you?

MM, I think that the excitement of creating cropped pants is extrememly energizing. Even if some do not understand the cropped pant, the shared experience of enjoying the cropped pants is palpable. There may not be a commercial market yet, but it could be because the art viewing public needs to educate themselves about the creative act itself. I'm sure Ham Paw could contribute to your discussion of art and commerce if he were available.

Mountain Man, I have another question for you. Cannot the act of creation be a joy in and of itself? Must commerce always be at the back of one's mind? Am I having naive thoughts? I have pondered this myself in the past. I could not find the answers and therefore shunned creative expression for the dullness of robotdom.

Dear artist containers of wisdom. i would like to appreciate you for all your honesty on the subject of creative intervention and deliberate openings for sharing. I haven't stopped myself from practicing for the moments when my hand will gesture into a depth of many meters. This will be the moment when I will call myself an artist and not a practicioner of the associative experiences of neccesary impact. MM is kind to allow this forum but I fear for him.

Dear Jalarba,

I like your sassy do-good stylish timeliness. You are going to be a great artist, I know.

This is so great. I am so excited. I am dreaming of me.

Love,

BT

Krixfort I agree with you so much. It is awful to think about creative acts in relation to commercialism. Fun creativity should stay pure and separate. I have missed you. I have not been on the blog lately. I had 3rd degree burns on my hands from making soup for my sick mother. She felt badly for me and gave me some money to buy a new bra. My old one, as you may recall, is filled with now rancid potato salad.

I have been lurking around your apartment PD but you haven't come out today. I am dying to inappropriately grab you. I will grab you on your behind you sexed up fool! I love your ways!!

I am going to do my swimming laps now. I am using the pool computer. I am in my swimming trunks (well more like a bikini bottom, very nice and show off my package) and blue swimming cap. I have flippers on to increase my speed. I nearly triple my speed with the flippers.

cropping is editing, and therefore withholding, even though you are revealing more, it is merely a feint. The question is what has become of the cropped or circumcised parts of the pants? They are very useful in spells of abundance, especially if they have a cuffed end; otherwise they must be ritually buried during a full moon. In any event they must never be shown to a dealer, which will result in reduction of your power. Fragments are harder to sell, but they generate more press as they stimulate the imagination.
