Flooding Waters

Wow, I just read that NE Pennsylvania, right in our area, is under water. Many roads closed and some houses near the Delaware River have floated away. People evacuated. Tomorrow we are supposed to leave for the house in the woods. Everything is swollen and the Delaware is supposed to crest today at 33 feet - flood level is 17 feet. Hmmm. Interesting. We see. We hope our house is ok.

Neighbor called and said our road is washed away?? Hmm. What does that mean exactly.

dubz said...

oh no! i'm worried for your house MM!

Pd said...

OH NO! I am sorry MM. I hope your house is okay!!

mountain man said...

I know it's so crazy. Just waiting to hear. The road situation is all messed up but I am hoping the little house is good. It's a solid little guy. Will report the details! I am still trying to figure exactly what washed away means. No more road? Or just all muddy and flooded. I am not going to look at the papers anymore, they only report the worst stuff. Apparently though there is a state of emergency across our whole area. We wait and see......

pd said...

"Washed away" is not city talk, so I am not so sure what it means. But I hope you can still access the house.

krixfort said...

the newspapers are hard to look at MM. They like to print the stuff that keeps people reading which is usually all the gnarly stuffs.

I am sending out the beams of safety to the little house. All will be well I am hoping.

fb said...

hmmm. the house is kind of up on a hill as I remember, right? so it'll be ok, but maybe some of the roads around are flooded out? UGH. That's terrible mm. I guess you will find out. assuming you can access the property in the next few days. Did it really rain that much up there? Wow. I am sorry to hear...

Pdebunker said...

MM, Depeche Mode is playing here. It brings back many memories, such as my very first blog post in the old "debunker" days, that was dedicated to you.

mountain man said...

Oh PD I love to think of the early heady days of blogging. Back when I didn't know who PD was and I thought you had a stick. Sigh.....

The house is ok, just some water on the 1st floor...doesn't sound too bad. Things are drying out up in the rainy regions...but we saw a photo of route 17 and a gas station we pass which was totally submerged in water. Crazy business. By tomorrow it should be easier for us to reach. We will have to see for ourselves how it all looks but some areas sound really screwed. There is a town nearby that was unreachable as of this morning.

yikes mm! apocalypse is near, i sear! in other matters: one of my fellow beigers was escorted out today. they won't tell us why. it just happened during our lunch hour. very freaky business. i no like it here. not safe. need booze.

deli-slicer said...

Booze rots your teeth, but well worth the dental bills.

MM, what makes you think I don't have a stick? Yes, those were the days my friend, I'd thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance together.....

deli-slicer said...

MM, you and UF be careful. I guess there are other roads that are clear and you know how to go. But it would be a drag if you couldn't get to your house.

FB, hopefully you will be in a new job soon anyway, right?

fairy butler said...

yeah, i hopes. i am trying to discern, via listening in on phone conversations next to me, what really happened with fellow beiger. I heard the word embarrassing?! What could that mean??

deli-slicer said...

Wow, they can fire you for being embarrassing? I'm in trouble.

dubz said...

fb & mm, i'm anxiously awaiting more details on these two dire situations.

dubz said...

true, peeds. i have made many "jokes" that did not go over well. also, i have insulted other beigers. what have you done?

dubz said...

also i have blogged like a mo'fo while work tasks piled up around me.

fb said...

I cannot figure out wtf is going on here with the person who left. I am coming up with really bizarre scenarios and he was the nicest and more normal person in the world so it just doesn't add up. Clues are: this is something that has been going on with HR for awhile now. MOst likely job performance/inadequacies? I didn't see them but ??

deli-slicer said...

I'm with you on the blogging issue Dubz, although I've gotten the pile down this week. (that sounds gross) But one of my most embarrassing moments was scanning in a temperature chart in the copier and forgetting to hit "function clear." My boss inadvertently emailed it to an author. It was tres, tres, mortifying.

fairy butler said...

i am ready for beer.

dubz said...

yeah, let's have beers at your opening. they WILL have the beers, right fb?

deli-slicer said...

yeah fb, beers? please say yes.

fairy butler said...

i am struggling to not buy skittles right now. really struggling.

fairy butler said...

yes, they have beers and a garden out back.

fairy butler said...

i would LOVE to see you guys but please don't feel like you have to come. it's not a big deal thing AT ALL!! attendance is not mandatory.

deli-slicer said...

FB, I am feeling better after a dose of Tylenol and Blasphemus Rumors, so I'll be there.

MM said...

FB, I missed your opening, I am sorry. I suck...

OK, Holy crap everything is flooded near our house. There is a HOUSE in the road 5 minutes away from us and we have to take a whole other route to get there. WTF.

dubz said...

thinking of you m to the m. hope your houseboat has legs. keep us posted.

peeds said...

MM, I hope all is well for your journey. The sun is out--that helps, right? We will miss you.

MM said...

Thanks cute blogger excitements. I will miss you too, but I do plan to blog, that is for sure. Dial-up is my friend.

lupin said...

MM, I'm wishing a floating feeling to your house. i hope all is ok!

MM said...

Hey sweets! How are you? I heard you were not well on Tuesday? I miss you.

lupis said...

Hi fancy, I missed you guys to. I got poison ivy on my face. Turns out I'm allergic to it. The left side of my face looked like the elephant man with hemeroids.

MM said...

Oh Jeezus, that is so bad. Are you ok now, I hope? Poor Lupin. Lupis.

lupis said...

things are better now, I've been on steroids! how's the house? did it inflate?

pd said...

MM, stay here.
Hi Lupis! Sorry 'bout your poison. We missed you on Tues.

lupin said...

domo arigato PD! i always miss your robotics

MM said...

I hope you were able to view the pix of UF partially nude, at least, Lupis, to have the feeling that you were there. We missed you BADLY. We hope you feel much better on steroids for sure.

PD, I know, but the wilds are beckoning my groin. The fever is spreading and the hairs are sprouting, my chin and forehead are protruding in anticipation with becoming less evolved, mutating backwards into another species. You get me? I will miss you so much.

MM said...

I meant in anticipation of not with. See? Already dumber.

pd said...

I wanted to rent a kareoke for my b-day, but you will be gone--so why bother? By I understand your need to flee. I am feeling it too.

Lupis--until the next robotic spaz-off.

pd said...

i meant to say kareoke room. i am so bad.

MM said...

PD, I was just thinking that your bday is coming up and I will miss it. I am a shitbag. Can we have a belated celebration in a few weeks? That would be fun. I spoil you with Christian leaflets, the kind you love.

pd said...

Bless Jehovah! No need for that MM. You can shower squash blossoms over me.

fairy butler said...

pd, i will karaoke with you anytime. anyday.

fairy butler said...

mm, please fill us in when you get to the house with the situation. i don't like to hear about houses floating down the river. this is not acceptable. i wish you guys the best! pennsylvania has a wee touch of the apocalypse this season, the caterpillars, the floods, what is the deal? hopefully it will all be over after this....

Corny said...

Hi MM, Water is scary. Good luck with the house, please file a full report ASAP

AlsoArthur said...

yes, stat! asap!

I'm curious about the situation with your 'washed away road!?" If the road is washed away (and by that I assume not the worst, just a mucky mess, gravel washed away etc.) but it worries me since you have the 'art barn' right on the road and then your house and garage below! eep!

Also, your purty 'lil pond and the stream. I assume it was also swollen and rabid? Crazy bidness!

The Capt'n said...

OOhhhh, this makes my stomach have the nervous feelin's.

Dear MM:
We're all waiting for an update.. how is the house etc... and the washed out road?
What's the damage? Photos welcome...We've just been getting the tail end of that system with nasty thunderstorms, hail and walls of water..was trapped out in a bus shelter with ten others yesterday! Was exciting in a weird way contemplating the tempered glass possibly imploding under the horizontally driving water. Very CSI. Could barely see the cars in the lane next to us at moments.

MM said...

Hey! We are here, it took much longer than normal BUT our house is ok. Pond and stream totally overflowed, ravaging parts but not so bad. Not as bad, for instance, as the shacks and houses we passed on our detoured way (most roads are f-ed) where people were removing their belongings to let them dry in the sun. Extremely sad. The worst damage was to houses right on the Delaware or on surging creeks. The roads are all torn up, massive trenches on the sides, mud in the trees, water everywhere. We passed the gas station that was on the front page of the NYT yesterday - sunk and boarded up. Anyway, it's wild. But we are mostly ok! The worst thing is that our house is covered in sticky white caterpillar cocoons. Like the door is stuck shut from so many grody cocoons. There are some in our bedroom even. Really disgusting, must murder them before they mess our trees up next year.

OK, that is the update! I will post pictures. Yes. Meanwhile, thank everything that we are lucky to have our house in one piece. No more apocalypse to NE Pennsylvania!

MM said...

I still can't believe these little shacks by the Delaware. Wet and messed up belongings of people who seemed not to have much to begin with. Really shitty.

peeds said...

Thank zod, MM! We were so worried. I left you a message. I am glad that the damage was minimal. Sad that people's houses were ruined. I cannot imagine.

Hearts to you.

dubz said...

glad to hear this, MM. but also sorry for the shack owners. and the cocoons must be destroyed. ICK.

MM said...

PD, the zucchini plants are doing really well, they are moaning for you. PD, they say, PD, come here. I have 6 plants total, 4 of which are huge already so you will have blossoms aplenty.

In other gardening news my arugula is kaput. Sadness. Must plant more, it was so tasty. The beans are gimpy but tomatoes are plodding onward with cuteness and the herbs are just starting to come up. Out of control weeds from 2 weeks of abandoned garden. I am so excited to get back in there.

My parents & brother, sister & law & most importantly MISTER PANTS, my nephew. I can't wait to see him, he turns one this week. I'm going to push him in the pond first thing.

Ok, I hope this is not too much information. Why am I self-conscious I don't know. Pretend you care about my life!!! Do it.

MM said...

Hi Dubz! I miss you. I keep thinking about your rad arm muscles. I am going to pump some iron over the next few weeks. I would like to arm wrestle with you.

MM said...

Except I want my strength to be focused in my forearm area. Much more sexual excitement is housed there. Maybe.

deli-slicer said...

Dear Zucchini plants,

please wait for my visit. i am the zucchini whisperer and i will tame you and prepare you for the fryer and such.

deli-slicer said...

MM! So happy to hear of your garden. Sorry 'bout the arugula. That is my very favorite.

crux said...

As for the forearm area. I am not sure you can get much sexier.

hammy said...

I'm so glad you made it and that the house is okay!

dubz said...

MM, let's arm wrestle in the zucchini patch.

fairy butler said...

phew mm. i am so happy to hear that your country castle is relatively ok. and that the veggies are rocking it. i planted some of the rocket seeds just yesterday... very exciting!! the pennsylvania apolcalypse is retreating now, i know it. although it is awful to think of those little homes by the river. probably not there now. yikes.

krixfort said...

MM, good to hear that your home is alright. I am sending well wishing vibes in the form of telepathic messages to all the flooded peeps.

Very exciting that Mr. Pants is coming to visit. He is probably less squishy now that he is older and wiser and probably even CUTER.

xoxox,
krixfort

sloth said...

yes mm, I am imagining mr. pants... he will come striding in, smoking a cigar, demanding a scotch & soda.

mm, I am so glad your house is okay. Nightmare averted.

let's maybe knit the coccoons into a giant umbrella over PA?

MM said...

Family still here. Hi everyone, I miss you. I am drinking in the afternoons now, it is the new way. The garden is my true life. Artmaking is no longer part of the way. I have decided to start a cult in the woods, I am working harder on my charm factor since I must convince people to give me their clothing and wills. What our belief system will be must still be worked out. That's all for now. Better get back to my over-life-sized margarita.

MM said...

We will believe in fudge on the mountaintop. That is the pinnacle. We will leave our clothes on the road and do line dancing in the nude. Our faces will not have expressions. Self-boning with vegetables and sticks.

I saw a store today called "Arts for Him."

I also saw a sign that said "art, sticks and stuff for sale."

MM said...

I sound like I am drunk but I am not. I have only had one sip I swear to you.

Declining Aerobics Teacher said...

MM you sound like you are missing your owner. You are a pet on parade with no leash or walker. You are feckless. You will never start a cult, you lack gumption.

MM said...

Note: If you are going to try boning yourself with vegetables I recommend starting with a radish and then working up to a butternut squash, not the other way around.

melanie said...

when you get to the melon family, you have gone too far.

sloth said...

MM! I, too, am drinking in the afternoons, but it is because of my lack of garden, I am sure. Will you plant me where the arugula was? I promise to not die there, & you can cut off parts of me for salad-makings.

MM said...

SLothy if I could plant you there is a chance you might establish yourself in the dirts and multiply. This would be better for the world.

I had a weird dream last night that you, me, Ham and Corny had take psychotropics and pictures in books were transforming into events before us. There were sewn cloth bunny people who were in possession of menace but who we stopped from doing us harm by slicing them in unique ways. There was no blood, just frozen bunny stares. We were jazzed up.

MM said...

I hope to make a new post today. Here's wishing me luck. It is raining and Mister Pants is squeaking downstairs. He is walking all over.

sloth said...

MM! I'm so glad I got to go to PA and do drugs with you guys last night. I was wondering why there were grass stains on the ass of my pj's this morning. Also bunny-stuffing between my toes. Let's make rocket salad with the cloth bunnies. It would be perfect for the 4th of July. Rabbit-rocket salad.
