A Trip to the Fair

Last night UF and I went to the Harford, PA fair. FUN!!! Hot dogs, onion rings and steak sandwiches...yum. We went to see the demolition derby but sadly my pictures did not turn out so well - too many herky jerky movements by the smash-ups and men wearing helmets...it was very smoky and kind of beautiful to watch.

BUT MUCH MUCH BIGGER in the way of photo excitement were the prize-winning items on display in the halls.

A crocheted motorhome. It's hard to see from this photo, but inside the well-appointed home are two racks for electronic keyboards. Amazing!!!

A beach cake. Excellent idea to put lifesavers along the front edge in case of accidental drowning.

In the clothing section - this lovely sandwich outfit. The boy modeling it does not look so pleased, however.

The art section contained many many fabulous items. These were my favorites, please note that the first one seems to be an MM of some kind.

It was really amazing! Basically everything I search for on the internet or look for here and there in thrift shops was all IN ONE PLACE with many people darting about in cowboy hats. It was incredible. What I didn't post were the long aisles of bunnies in their cages, goats in their pens and chickens. Totally awe-inspiring.

I wish you all could have been with me! Maybe next year we will have a group outing to the fair.

next year, can we jump in the crochet motorhome and take a trip to the fair? I want to look at gigantic fruits and vegetables. Did they have them there MM?

Krix, the vegetables and fruits were not huge, weirdly. Just regular size and definitely everything was on its last legs, as it was the last night of the fair. Many sad wilting flowers, stale cakes and not quite rotting veggies. Somehow that just made it all the more poignant.

I keep thinking if someone made that motorhome and put it in a gallery show it would totally translate.

I am enjoying the paintings most. Especially the man with the dark glasses.

  11. Anonymous10:29 AM

I think there should be some demo-derbies in galleries. Very appropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anonymous10:44 AM

I agree with lurker about the painting of the man in dark glasses. so racer x. . .

There is some demo destruction happening in my intestines today.

Hi PD & Krix! Let's don the dark glasses of menace and win the races.

I have the cramps. My legs are involved, as is my back. I am dreaming of ice cube trays and rhinos in the manner of Zan and Jana.

  15. Anonymous11:45 AM

MM, I told you not to eat the cake at the derby. Sawdust is not good for the intestines.

There is corporeal evil afoot in the invisible wires. Snorts.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anonymous1:19 PM

Barb you sound menacing. Are you a ghost?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Anonymous1:20 PM

No, I am a victim of the contemporary spectacle of reality and the bombardment of images that occurs in popular culture.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous1:20 PM

That sounds like a tragicomedy written in real time. Very cartoon-philosophy. Good luck to you.

X's for eyes, what do you mean by out? Are you out of the closet or are you knocked out? You seem very lively to me. Are you a hustler who's in it for the thrills?

I am sitting in attack position. I have pistols at the ready for no apparent reason, yet I feel safer this way.

  29. is it jumping out window time yet? i am all wrapped up in elastic bands and am ready to spring.

    ReplyDelete
  30. did you take the acid i left you mm?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anonymous3:02 PM

    I need a tincture.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous3:07 PM

I have not taken the acid yet, FB. Perhaps I should, my brain is on high alert and it is causing de-pressurization in all internal cabins. I am set to combust.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous3:08 PM

I am working on a tincture/muscle relaxant/oracular potion. I will let you know when it is finished. I intend for it to be grape-flavor.

    ReplyDelete
  34. it may be time for a vision quest mm. you will need a variety of notions if you proceed on this path some of which include:

    - the acid, ingested, but not too much.

    - 3 playing cards, jack of diamonds, a joker, and the 5 of clubs

    - pocket spanish dictionary

    - your toilet in a bag

    - assorted nails, push pins, and tapes, assemble a grab bag

    - hair brush

i am probably forgetting some other important items. let me think.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous3:15 PM

This is excellent advice, FB, however I may have to forego the tacks and what-not as hurting myself with them could be a possible outcome. Must only bring soft, malleable items on the vision quest. I can put everything in my satchel of despair that dangles suggestively from the end of my stick.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous3:16 PM

    (Not THAT stick, PD)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous3:16 PM

Yes to the Spanish dictionary. Perhaps a Dutch one too. Yes to the hair brush - I like silky hair even when I am tripping in the wilds.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous3:17 PM

Possibly the lyrics to all Yes songs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. you might want to participate in some cut dancing while you are questing so some cutting appendices may be necessary.

    ReplyDelete
  40. a small ghetto blaster with only yes tapes. they just put out a live box set i happen to know from Daiel. included with this box set is a "yes on ice" concert with rennaissance type stylings. i am not kidding.

    ReplyDelete
  41. mm, you will need some l'eggs nude hose for various things including fur trapping.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous3:22 PM

It sounds great! Yes on Ice!!! I like. Fairy, my hands are kick ass sharp - hands of mega cutting capabilities. But you know best about what to bring so ok I will bring some sharp sharps. I will have to write a note to self on my inner fore-arm NOT to cut myself in any way, however great the temptation.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous3:23 PM

Crotchless? I've got them - leftover from Arthur's half goat half man porno frenzy.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous3:23 PM

Crotchless hose are the way of the wilds.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous3:24 PM

I am carving a wooden emblem for you to wear around your neck MM. It will assist in warding off evil.

    ReplyDelete
  46. pink post-its on the knives and tacks mm - this will prevent self-injury. you will need the spanish dictionary to talk to the nutria, who are attrated to the sounds of yes.

    ReplyDelete
  47. bring some non-crotchless l'eggs for trapping and collecting mushrooms, berries, and scats.

    ReplyDelete
  48. can i accompany you mm, on the vision quest? i will bring some finger cymbals, a mouth harp, and magical musical thing. i will practice along with yes.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous3:28 PM

Thank you deeply and richly for this advice FB. May I bring goggles in case I have to commune with the nutria underwater?

    ReplyDelete
  50. yes, goggles are often necessary in the woods.. and the city for that matter.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anonymous3:30 PM

I wanted to ask you to join me Fairy, but I felt shy. Yes! The quest is all about yes. We will leave at dawn tomorrow. I will bring my maracas and jew's harp.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anonymous3:32 PM

I will also bring a small container of acidophilous milk, some twisty straws and a stun gun. Just in case.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous3:37 PM

Good luck to you. May you never end up like me.

    ReplyDelete

Ham coated bananas may be found at the state fair. they are on a stick which makes them taste better!

Sniff sniff...I thought Sloth was back but not yet!! Accomplishing dutiful tasks of repair to shed in the wilds. A noble duty. Soon, Sloth, we will cradle you in the ether.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Anonymous10:49 AM

cheer up MM. Slothy will return soon. We can sing her a duet upon her arrival. I vote for Islands in the Stream. Will you join in?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Anonymous12:09 PM

Yes I will Krix. I would consider it an honor to sing with you. Then perhaps we can segway into "Kiss is on my List"? That would be real real nice.
